Types of bathroom countertops
Want to throw that old installed cabinet to the side and modernize the bathroom decor, but are you unsure of what material to use to make the sink countertop?
The owner of the Neogran marble shop, Adriano Neogran, will give some tips on the material options we find on the market and explain the advantage of each one.
Aglostone
Aglostone is obtained from the use of marble particles dispensed in nature, 95% of marble particles in different sizes and 5% of polyester resin.
Its most common uses are in floors of high circulation environments, in addition to benches.
Caesarstone
Caesarstone is a surface composed of up to 93% quartz, with various polymers and traces of pigments, and is therefore a material resistant to stains, scratches and cracks.
Because it is not a porous surface, it is quite suitable for countertops, since they are resistant to moisture.
Tip
• There is no need to waterproof the product;
• It must not be used outdoors or in places with the emission of ultraviolet rays.
Corian
Corian is a material composed of approximately 1/3 of acrylic polymers and 2/3 of natural minerals. It is very resistant and is being used to replace other materials, such as granites and marbles.
It is a moldable material when subjected to heat of more than 165 °, in addition to being able to be cut and glued without leaving apparent seams.
As it has no porosity, it does not absorb liquids and does not retain odors. It is solid, does not scratch easily, does not break, does not chip, and its colors do not fade.
Dekton
This is a mixture of raw materials that are used to manufacture glass, state-of-the-art porcelain and quartz surfaces. It is highly resistant to stains and scratches, in addition to having high color stability and reduced water absorption.
It is a coating widely used on walls, countertops and floors.
Granite
Granite is essentially composed of the minerals quartz, feldspar, mica and amphiboles and is one of the most used stones in countertops due to its cost x benefit.
Granite is a solid, hard, resistant and easy to clean natural stone.
Marbles
Marble is a metamorphic rock originated from limestone exposed to high temperatures and pressure, which has several variations of colors and textures.
Unlike granite, it is a more noble, more expensive and less resistant stone, with high porosity and greater ease of scratching and staining.
Nanoglass
Nanoglass is an industrialized material obtained from selected raw materials, in particular the crystals of high purity, which went through a fusion thus producing flat plates in a rectangular shape, which after the polishing procedure we obtain a crystallized surface with nanotechnology.
It is a surface that has perfect and mirrored shine, it is resistant to high temperatures, high traffic, impacts and scratches.
In wet environments, such as the bathroom, Nanoglass is extremely indicated for offering practically zero porosity and resistance to attacks by acidic and alkaline substances, in addition to everyday abrasives.
Neolith
Neolith is a product composed from very fine and selected natural raw materials that, after a high-tech process of ultra compacting and sintering, gives a high performance surface with unique properties for multiple applications.
The product is resistant to scratches, stains, abrasion and chemicals, in addition to having almost zero porosity. In addition to wet areas, it is also suitable for use on floors, facades, walls and furniture.
Onyx
Translucent onyx is a lighted stone with designs formed by veins. It is also known as Alabaster.
It is a noble material, fragile, without pores and easy to maintain. Its translucent natural aspect allows numerous forms of use (sinks, counters, panels, fireplaces, stairs).
Silestone
Silestone is an industrialized stone composed of about 94% natural quartz, which provides extraordinary hardness and resistance. It has a wide range of colors and the advantage of being resistant to stains, impact and scratches; in addition to having antibacterial protection.
It is an excellent surface for kitchen countertops, bathrooms, floors and wall coverings with reduced number of joints.
Technistone
Technistone is composed of 93% of raw natural materials, including quartz, crushed granite, resins, colored pigments and selected additional fragments that give the material its own characteristics.
It is a material that has a wide variety of colors, high strength and easy maintenance. It is quite resistant to the proliferation of fungi and bacteria.
